چکیده

Abstract-A new class of quality of service (QoS) measures, EB(p), p≥1 for WDM optical transport networks is proposed in this paper. Compared with the traditional overall average blocking probability (OABP), EB(p) is a composite measure that is unbiased, makes reference to the QOS requirements, onesided, and takes the potential revenue loss into consideration. In particular, EB(1) can be identified as (revenue) weighted average excessive blocking, and EB(2) as mean square (revenue) weighted excessive blocking. The effectiveness of this new composite measure is compared with OABP based on several existing routing and wavelength assignment algorithms.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Optimization of wavelength assignment for QoS multicast in WDM networks

This paper discusses quality-of-service (QoS) multicast in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks. Given a set of QoS multicast requests, we are to find a set of cost suboptimal QoS routing trees and assign wavelengths to them. The objective is to minimize the number of wavelengths in the system. This is a challenging issue. It involves not only optimal QoS multicast routing, but also ...

QoS Aware Wavelength Assignment in Wavelength Division Multiplexing Based Optical Networks

Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) is used in optical networks to implement data circuits. These circuits allow exchange of information as a measure of wavelength in optical domain. Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning is one of the issues in WDM optical networks. This paper discusses different QoS aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) algorithms. Some unaddressed issues are identi...

Comparative Analysis of Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithms used in WDM Optical Networks

This study aims at highlighting the Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) problems in WDM Optical networks and describes the Routing Algorithms and their performance comparison. Since routing decisions play an important role in evaluating the blocking performance of a network it is critical to choose a wavelength assignment scheme that should take into account its compatibility with the chose...

Reduction of Crosstalk in WDM Networks with Optional FEC Coding

In all-optical WDM networks, signals propagate over very long physical lightpaths without regeneration. Signals are subject to well-known physical impairments which are sensitive not only to the network topology, such as amplifier noise, but also to new impairments which vary with the network utilization. These impairments are interchannel crosstalk due to nonlinear signals combinations within ...
